Billy Davies has been appointed as Greenock Morton’s new Technical Head Coach. He will work at Cappielow with First Team Manager Dougie Imrie.

Davies brings decades of top-level experience to the position, along with a strong managing CV. At the age of 33, he became Motherwell’s youngest manager ever and swiftly established a stellar reputation for success by finishing in the top four of the Scottish Premiership. Later, he guided Preston North End to back-to-back Championship play-off appearances, adding unbeaten records to the team’s illustrious “Invincibles” streak.

Davies achieved Premier League promotion with Derby County in 2007 and enjoyed two impactful spells at Nottingham Forest, where he broke longstanding club records and consistently reached the Championship play-offs.

Manager Dougie Imrie welcomed the move, saying:

“It’s fantastic to have Billy coming on board. His experience speaks for itself, and his influence will help raise the standards across the club. We’re raring to go for the new season.”

Chairman John Laird added:

“Billy’s appointment signals our ambition to keep progressing. His knowledge will be invaluable as we support Dougie and continue building momentum. Through discussions with Billy, his enthusiasm for the role is clear, and we look forward to working with him.”

On joining the club, Billy Davies said,

“To help Greenock Morton and the team overall, I’m thrilled to be joining him and collaborating with a fantastic young manager. In our meetings over the past few weeks, Dougie, the Chairman, and the Board have all expressed a great deal of optimism and ambition for the future. At the centre of the Inverclyde community, Morton is a club with a lot of promise, and I’m looking forward to the project.”

Ahead of the upcoming season, Morton is making a strong statement with Davies joining the football department.
