And with the capture of one of Super League’s most proven forwards in Cameron Smith the Belle Vue club are showing that there will be no let up in their bid to become one of rugby league’s big hitters.
Pontefract-born Smith will continue to play for Leeds Rhinos – where he is in his tenth season – this year, but he has agreed a four-year deal with Wakefield for the 2027 campaign and beyond.
Despite only being 27 years old, the versatile player—who can play front row, back row, and loose forward—has made over 150 Super League matches and is seen as a significant addition to the Trinity ranks.
Bringing Cameron to the club is a huge statement for us,” said Wakefield’s director of rugby Ste Mills.
“He’s a proven leader, a relentless competitor and someone who embodies everything we want this team to stand for.
“Cameron has been outstanding at Leeds and to secure a player of his calibre speaks volumes about the direction we’re heading in.

“He’s hungry, he’s driven, and he’s coming here to win.
“We believe he’ll raise standards across the entire group, both on and off the field, and we’re incredibly proud to welcome him to the club.”
Head coach Daryl Powell added: “I am delighted that Cam has agreed to join us from next season. He is someone who I have been tracking since I showed him around Featherstone as a kid years ago.
“He is a top line player who will fit seamlessly into how we play. There is no doubt we are going places as a club and this is another great signing to show that.”
Smith, who started out as a junior with Castleford Panthers and went to Castleford Academy and NEW College Pontefract, believes he is joining a club with great potential to become challengers.
“I’m really excited to be joining Wakefield next season,” he declared. The club has a strong future vision and a great deal of ambition.I’m excited to contribute to the construction that is taking place here. But I’m still totally focused on giving Leeds my all and making the most of my remaining time here until the end of the season.
