Wayne Rooney is the hot favourite to take over at Birmingham City after John Eustace’s sacking – he has already confirmed that England is his destination….
Wayne Rooney has declared that he will return to England after leaving DC United at the end of the 2023 MLS season, despite rumors that he may join Birmingham City. Rooney is anticipated to take over for the outgoing John Eustace, who was fired on Monday morning despite a solid start to the season.
Blues, who are sixth in the Championship during the international break, issued a statement thanking Eustace for his work and stating their desire to recruit a replacement in due course.
Rooney has only recently departed DC after the two sides agreed to split ways, and in an interview this weekend, he indicated that, although remaining tight-lipped about his next challenge, he would be returning to England. His sole previous managing experience was at Derby County in the Midlands.
“It’s just the right time,” Rooney said, according to the Washington Post. “I believe I’ve done everything possible to get the club into [the] play-offs.” It’s not about a single event; it’s about the timing of your career. I’ve had a great experience here [in the United States], but I think it’s time for me to return to England. I’m not sure what lies ahead.”
