The 29-year-old is currently playing for RKC Waalwijk, who are currently in the Eredivisie’s relegation zone, which is the top division in Dutch football.
Additionally, Zawada may be set to leave the team as they appear to be leaving the top flight in the Netherlands, even though his contract at the Mandemakers Stadion doesn’t expire until next summer. He could exchange it for a move to England.
Blackburn Rovers, QPR and Oxford United want RKC Waalwijk striker Oskar Zawada
According to a report from Dutch publication SoccerNews, a trio of current Championship outfits are in the running for Zawada’s services this summer.
The 29-year-old has been Waalwijk’s shining light in the 2024-25 season despite their lowly position, scoring nine times in the Eredivisie since his move from Wellington Phoenix of the Australian A-League.
Despite holding contracts with Yuki Ohashi and Makhtar Gueye for the upcoming season, Blackburn Rovers is one of the English clubs interested in Zawada due to his scoring ability.
Another team interested in Zawada is QPR, who now have Michael Frey, Zan Celar, and young players Rayan Kolli and Alfie Lloyd as options.
Oxford United joins the Hoops and Rovers for the striker’s services, as the U’s place in the division is still up in the air for 2025–2026.
Oxford is hoping to raid a club on the other side of the North Sea again this summer after acquiring Ole Romeny from Dutch team Utrecht during the January transfer window.
Oskar Zawada’s goalscoring record amid Championship interest
In his debut season in the Eredivisie, Zawada has scored nine times, as well as adding a further two goals in the KNVB Beker.
Prior to that move, Zawada had netted 22 times in 40 A-League matches for the aforementioned Wellington Phoenix, which was better than a one in two record, but in a jet-setting career where he’s also played in Poland, South Korea and Germany, he’s struggled to get regular goals and game-time elsewhere.
That was before he moved to Waalwijk, where he is the star player at the top of the field and the captain of the team. It is unclear, though, if RKC will be enticed to sign him this summer if they are demoted.
However, SoccerNews’ source indicates that German teams Hannover and Kaiserslautern are also interested in the 29-year-old, so the English three will have competition.
