Hibs sporting director Malky Mackay believes young goalie Murray Johnson has an “excellent opportunity” to develop as a potential Easter Road No. 1 during his loan spell with Greenock Morton. The 21-year-old shot stopper has joined the SPFL Championship side until the end of the season.
Johnson, who has previously gone on loan to Airdrieonians and Queens of the South, will work under former Hibs captain Ian Murray at Cappielow. Morton currently sit seventh in the SPFL second tier.

He’s been filling the No. 3 keeper role at Hibs this season, with Raphael Sallinger having nailed down his starting place between the sticks and experienced former starter Jordan Smith serving as back-up.
Mackay, explaining the decision to send Johnson out in search of first-team experience, Mackay said: “At Murray’s stage of his career, we felt it was best for his development to be out on the pitch playing games – and this will be an excellent opportunity to test himself at a very competitive level in the Scottish Championship. We all look forward to monitoring his progress closely and wish him all the best between now and the end of the season at Greenock Morton.
