Conor Hourihane, the temporary manager of Barnsley, praised a “big performance” versus Wanderers at Oakwell.

The Yorkshire club broke a seven-game losing streak when Hourihane earned his first three points in the hot seat.

With goals from Jonathan Russell and Fabio Jalo in the first twenty-five minutes, the interim manager was thrilled with his team’s quick start.

Hourihane said to the club channels, “I am thrilled.” “The players deserve all the praise; in my opinion, they were exceptional. Over the past five or six games, I’ve asked them a lot of questions, and I believe everything came together well.

I’m really proud of them since they were reliable, persevered, and gave a fantastic performance, in my opinion.

“During the last few training days, I could sense Birmingham’s enthusiasm and reaction from the previous week.

“They gave me a fantastic performance. I thought they were excellent, and I was quite proud of them after asking them a lot of questions.

In an effort to regain control, Barnsley’s start pushed Wanderers to make substitutions from the bench prior to the half.

“Having good skills both with and without the ball is crucial,” Hourihane continued. “You have to play with energy and intensity because the best teams are so good both with and without the ball.”

They had to track runners, and Bolton has some excellent midfield players, so I asked a lot of them.

“I questioned many of the wingers about

how they wish to push and their pressing angles. After 30 minutes, we made them make three modifications, which says a lot about how things started.

Getting a victory at home against a very good team that is vying for the playoffs makes me happy for the supporters as well.

“Everyone talks about the home record, and they deserve it to give that outstanding performance in front of the supporters. It would be equally memorable away from home.

“I am happy for them because it has been difficult for them in terms of home form over the past couple of years.”
