In order to balance time on the training field with recuperation, Valerien Ismael will evaluate Blackburn Rovers’ team for the final eight games during the international break.

Since taking over, the head coach has witnessed a significant loss of players due to injuries. Four players could return for the trip to Portsmouth, even if Callum Brittain, Andi Weimann, Augustus Kargbo, and Emmanuel Dennis are out past this month.

The two-week vacation will be utilised for a reset after he played four games in two weeks to begin his Rovers career. In addition to work at the Senior Training Centre, the team will need time to recuperate following a 23-game run. Rarely do senior players choose not to report for their nations.

“Yes, exactly, it is a period now to work with the players. You need to find the right balance,” Ismael said on the upcoming break.

“Some players need to rest because they play a lot, the players who didn’t play a lot or come back from injury need to train but we will need them so we need to find the right balance.

“Now at least I have time a little bit to come to settle properly and just to think about all of the situation. I need clarity about how long will be the injury, what kind of player we can count on for the next game, what we can do, what we can develop at the minute and for sure prepare for the next game.”
