According to reports, Celtic will sign their second player of the summer transfer window.

After Kieran Tierney’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expired, the Hoops were able to capture him on a free transfer from Arsenal. Ross Doohan, a former Aberdeen goalie, is also expected to join Celtic, albeit the deal hasn’t been finalised yet.

Benjamin Nygren, a winger with FC Nordsjaelland, is being pursued by the Bhoys; it is believed that £1.7 million will be sufficient to get the Swedish international.

But it looks like a young player from Greenock Morton will soon be signed.

Isaac English of Morton is expected to join Celtic for £50,000.

According to the Greenock Telegraph, Celtic is getting closer to signing Isaac English, a Morton starlet.

The promising teenage defender is rumoured to have signed a £50,000 contract with the Cappielow team.

English, who is only 17, will probably fit right in with Celtic B, which is led by Stephen McManus, a former Parkhead defender.

Last season, English was a member of the Morton U18 team that won the Club Academy Scotland Performance League.

Morton’s young team advanced to the CAS Cup final as well, however the Ross County U18 team defeated them 2-1.

English only has a year left on his contract at Morton, so it looks like the Scottish Championship team is trying to get a deal before the young player leaves for nothing.

On his route from Celtic B to the English first team, Stephen McManus should be able to advance through the Celtic system and make his first-team debut in the upcoming seasons.

During a press conference recently to promote Celtic’s friendly with Newcastle United this summer, Celtic B manager McManus stressed the need of doing just that.

“It always stays the same,” he stated. To get young players into our first squad, it is our responsibility to try to develop them. Nothing ever changes.

“Results are not the most important thing to us. They are not the most crucial element. The manager and the first team members have that.

Developing young players to try to prepare them for first team football is our responsibility. Either our first squad or someone else’s first team, hopefully. We make an effort to do that.

We make an effort to close the gap. The gap between the first and B teams is the largest in our football club. There’s no question at all.

Therefore, it is our responsibility to strive to improve the players. Once more, we believe in experiences from which we have benefited. We have been that young player for us.
