Because of his “violent behaviour” at a Southport football game, a man has been prohibited from going to future games. In the second half of the January 25 National League North game between Chorley FC and Southport FC, chaos broke out among the Chorley fans.

According to testimony given in court, Euxton resident Daniel Moonbrook was arrested and evicted from The Big Help Stadium on Haig Avenue after being observed attacking a female Chorley fan.

Moonbrook appeared at Sefton Magistrates Court on April 22 where he was issued with a three-year banning order and fined £300, compensation and court costs.

“Violence against women and girls will not be tolerated under any circumstances, including football,” stated Inspector Stuart McLoughlin.

“This kind of violent attitude has no place in football, and the victim, who was with her family, was left extremely distraught following the incident.

Moonbrook is prohibited from going to any football game in the nation as a result of this suspension.

“Merseyside Police is committed to establishing safe spaces for women, which includes allowing them to go to football games where they can feel secure and unafraid.”

“Anyone found accountable for engaging in any kind of aggressive or inappropriate behaviour during football games will be targeted and brought to justice. We will bring you before the courts to face charges, so I hope this makes it clear and serves as a warning to others.
