He was acquired from Plymouth Argyle for £2 million in the summer and has started 40 of Chris Wilder’s team’s 42 Championship games.
He has been one of the Championship’s best goalkeepers, along with James Trafford of Burnley, and a pivotal player in Sheffield United’s promotion campaign. His 102 saves at a rate of 76.7% have been useful, even though that campaign has slowed down a little in recent weeks. His importance is highlighted by a healthy goals prevented figure of 4.93.
It’s all part of what’s been a remarkably consistent career to date for Cooper, with the 25-year-old previously lighting up Home Park during his impressive spell with Plymouth before making the move to Yorkshire.
Although there haven’t been any reports of Cooper moving away just yet, teams in higher levels are taking notice of his play. It’s difficult to believe he isn’t drawing attention given his age and exceptional consistency in goal.
Sheffield United should prepare for questions over Cooper’s availability this summer, according to Sky Sports analyst David Prutton, who made this suggestion in an exclusive interview with Football League World.

“Michael Cooper has had an extremely decent season for Sheffield United,” Prutton stated to FLW. “A genuine presence in play and personality.
The things he has accomplished and the way he has approached them have inspired me.
Potentially, the desire could stem from his capacity to manage the demands and expectations of playing for a major Championship club. Sheffield United would undoubtedly do all in their power to retain him.
“He is seemingly, professionally and ambitiously, in a hurry – but I think he’s found a home at Sheffield United, so I can see him staying.”
