Given the field for the 2025 NCAA 16-team tournament, many players who choose not to compete are free to sign contracts and start their professional careers. This is the ideal time for the Colorado Avalanche to shop for players to complete a rookie tournament roster and provide organisational depth to the Colorado Eagles in the autumn; more on that below.

As a result, a few players, including left-shot winger Cooper Gay and goalie Isak Posch, signed NHL contracts with Colorado. Since they are both 23 years old, they agreed to a conventional two-year Entry Level Contract that would start in the 2025–2026 season. Both athletes are graduates of Minnesota colleges, with Gay having attended St. Thomas and Posch having attended St. Cloud State. Gay is well-known to the organisation because he was injured and missed development camp in 2024.

In addition to the signing announcement, LA Kings insider Mayors Manor reported that the Avalanche would host a portion of the Rookie Faceoff in September, including Utah and Vegas prospects. Anaheim is where the California clubs are anticipated to play in the meantime.

Colorado apparently had plans to host again for the first time since hosting the first tournament in 2016, however it was decided that they would not have enough space in their facilities to accommodate all six teams. Fortunately, though, they will be using the new South Suburban Complex rather than the Family Sports Centre. There are currently no specifics regarding the dates, timings, or public access to these games, although they should take place throughout the weekend of September 12–15.
