Since leaving Coventry City last summer, the Dutchman has had a tremendous impact at Bramall Lane, making 34 appearances in 38 games this season and playing a key role in their Premier League promotion attempt under Chris Wilder.

With seven goals and five assists in the last third for the Blades, Hamer has been a shining example. Now is the time for him to establish himself in the top division.

But this week, Hamer sparked speculation about a possible departure from Sheffield United by expressing a desire to eventually return to his old team, Feyenoord, where his career started.

This has sparked worries that the 27-year-old isn’t dedicated to the Blades for the long run, and a move may be imminent, especially if the Yorkshire team is forced to play in the Championships again the following season.

Pundit Lee Hendrie has shared his opinions on what the offensive midfielder should do next, since Hamer’s future at Bramall Lane is uncertain due to his recent remarks.

Lee Hendrie backs Gustavo Hamer to be a success at Sheffield United

Even if promotion isn’t gained this season, according to commentator Lee Hendrie, who spoke exclusively to Football League World, Gus Hamer should stay at Sheffield United since he has a lot more room to grow with Chris Wilder.

“Gus Hamer has expressed his wish to return to Feyenoord at some point, and I believe it will be a one-day thing,” Hendrie stated.

“He has had such a significant impact at Sheffield United and is essential to their identity, so perhaps in the future it will be an option for him. However, you do feel that the Blades have a lot of potential to be in the Premier League next season, so in my opinion, it would be a step backward if it happened now.

“Obviously, teams would be interested, just like they were when he first signed with Sheffield United, but I’d be shocked to see it happen right away. However, you can never rule it out if that’s his goal, but I believe it would be foolish for him to leave the Blades.”

Gus Hamer should continue his rise at Sheffield United

With Coventry and now Sheffield United, Gus Hamer has shown incredible talent in the Championship. If promotion is guaranteed, he will have a fantastic chance to establish himself in the Premier League.

A move back to Holland should be put on hold for the time being until this is accomplished because Hamer, who had his first taste of life in the top division last season, will be eager to prove that he is talented enough to play at the highest level of English football for an entire season.

Given the moments he has created in England, returning to his native country would seem like a waste of potential, and staying at Bramall Lane for the long run will only allow him to continue learning and growing.
