Murray Wallace, a defender for Millwall, will leave The Den at the conclusion of his contract, and Huddersfield Town and Blackpool will compete for his services.

Over the past week, there have been reports that the Seasiders are trailing newly promoted Bradford City in the race to sign the defender.

But on Sunday morning, journalist Alan Nixon announced on his Patreon page that the Bantams had withdrawn from the competition to sign Wallace, leaving Blackpool and his old team, Huddersfield, to compete for his services.

Throughout his eight seasons with the team, the 32-year-old has been a mainstay for Millwall, making well over 200 appearances and assisting the Lions in re-establishing themselves as a formidable Championship team.

Following the announcement that his contract at The Den will not be renewed, Wallace will now be searching for a new club for the upcoming season. According to early reports, Bradford was in the lead for his services, but Nixon’s most recent information indicates that is no longer the case.

Huddersfield and Blackpool are engaged in a transfer fight to try to acquire the seasoned defender for their respective teams after the recently promoted team reportedly withdrew from the race to sign the Scot.

Before starting a new chapter at Scunthorpe United, where he won a £500,000 transfer to Millwall in 2018, Wallace played for the Terriers from 2012 to 2016.

Both of the teams allegedly vying for Wallace’s services have already been active in the transfer market, especially in order to bolster their defences in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Blackpool has swooped for Sheffield Wednesday’s Michael Ihiekwe and Fraser Horsfall of Stockport County, while Huddersfield has already acquired Joe Low from Wycombe Wanderers and Sean Roughan from Lincoln City.

Given that both teams are trying to improve on their somewhat lacklustre performances from the previous season, competition in the defensive units will be intense at both clubs.

But as previously stated, Murray has already worked at John Smith’s Stadium for four years, and as a result, he might be eager to begin a new chapter somewhere else rather than reuniting with his previous employers.

In any case, the Scot has two good options who will probably compete at the extreme end of League One the following season, and his background may help either team in their campaigns.
