More protection for the striker who was booked against Hull City on Tuesday night has been demanded by Derby County’s head coach.

John Eustace believes Patrick Agyemang is one of the most fouled players in the Championship and felt his booking at Hull City was “ridiculous”.

The Derby County head coach has come out fighting on behalf of his striker who had to put up with yet more rough treatment that went unpunished by the officials.

Eustace last week said that the American needs more protection, but instead he was booked after just 90 seconds of the game against the Tigers on Tuesday night for two fouls in the space of a minute.

But Agyemang was thrown to the floor later in the half that the fourth official witnessed, but the referee opted not to give a free-kick in a decision that sparked anger in the Derby dugout.

It didn’t stop the USA international from producing a mesmerising first-half performance during which he could have scored twice after two mesmerising runs.

But Eustace feels that the officials just aren’t looking out for him.

“The booking after what, 90 seconds, is ridiculous, really,” he said. “It’s a real tough Championship game and to get booked after 90 seconds for nothing more or less, is disappointing.

“I think he’s probably one of the most fouled players in the Championship. He’s 6’4, he’s a physical player, but I certainly do think he needs to be getting protected a little bit more.

“I can’t really remember the incident that happened later in the half, but there are lots of incidents where he gets pulled back and held.”
