Doncaster Rovers have signed Matty Pearson, a former defender for Barnsley and Huddersfield Town, ending their hunt for a senior center-half.
Pearson, 31, is Rovers’ third acquisition of the offseason after acquiring former Rangers winger Glenn Middleton, Barrow midfielder Gotts, and Dundee United. Pearson has agreed to a two-year contract.

Pearson, who was born in Keighley, joined Town from Luton Town in the summer of 2021 and left the team after four seasons.

The no-nonsense center-half, who was linked to Bradford City earlier in the transfer window, will give the Rovers backline, which will be without Tom Anderson, Joe Olowu, and Richard Wood next season due to their recent departures, ballast, seniority, set-piece threat, and League One experience.

Pearson himself was excited, pointing to McCann’s long-standing interest in him and the club’s winning momentum.

After midfielder Robbie Gotts and winger Glenn Middleton, he is Doncaster’s third summer acquisition. Experienced defence meets aspirations for the Premiership.

Pearson is a natural leader who can assist fill the vacuum left by the losses of Tom Anderson, Joseph Olowu, and Ro-Shaun Williams, according to manager Grant McCann, who also lauded Pearson’s character. According to Pearson, the club’s ambition and recent winning streak drew him in. Along with Robbie Gotts and Glenn Middleton, the club has already signed him as part of its summer makeover.
