Fleetwood Town fell second best on the Fylde Coast in what was a disappointing showing from The Cods in their 4-0 defeat against Swindon Town. Goals from Kabongo Tshimanga, Miguel Freckleton and Nnamdi Ofoborh, coupled an own-goal sealed all three points for Ian Holloway’s men at Highbury.

On a sunny day in FY7, which was raised by ambitions for yet another victory for the cods having scored eight goals in their last two matches, ended in defeat. Wild’s team looked at it with Phoenix Patterson the main danger man on the left side.

With the clock approaching the 20th minute, forward Owen Devonport found himself in a grateful position, where he had the opportunity to get his shot away. His powerful shot just sailed over the crossbar.

Harrison Neal was able to get a blistering shot away at the opposition goalkeeper from around 35 yards out. On this occasion, Swindon goalkeeper Jack Bycroft pulled off an outstanding artillery save. Fleetwood had been knocking on the door for some while, but waited patiently for their chance to come.

In the 35th minute, Rhys Bennett conceded a penalty. Jay Lynch did well initially by pulling off a great save one-on-one with striker Harry Smith, but it was former Town man Tshimanga coolly converted his penalty, meaning Swindon took the lead in the mid-table clash.

Fleetwood kicked off the second half a little later than usual, as a spectator had to step up as fourth official. With one of the linesman sustained an illness throughout the first half, it meant he had to pass on his duties on the touchline.

In minute 47th minute, Swindon scored their second of the match. Left back Freckleton scored with a close range finish to ultimately kill off the match.

Town thought they had pulled one back ten minutes later, but the linesman flagged for offside as Matty Virtue headed the ball into the open net from Patterson’s cross. Would this be the moment Town went back on the front foot?

With 75 minutes on the clock, Bennett accidentally slid the ball into his own net. The Manchester Unit loanee was unfortunate to be on the receiving end of a well put in cross by The Robins. Town were three down.

Midfielder George Morrison backed up his EFL debut midweek by coming on with ten minutes to play. Morrison has now made his League home debut, another special moment for the promising Academy graduate.

In minute 88th minute, Ofobohr scored for Swindon after coming on as a substitute. The shot took a slight deflection off a red and white shirt, but with the initial shot being on target, it’s his to take.

There were six minutes added on at the end of the game, but when the referee blew his whistle for the final time, was it the nail in the coffin to end Fleetwood’s season with them nine points off with five games to play.
