Championship headlines as Boro face more interest in England U21 star Hayden Hackney

After Thomas Frank is officially announced as the next Spurs manager, Tottenham is planning a £20 million move for Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney.

The German will want to make Boro’s England Under-21 midfielder one of his first acquisitions after completing a move from Brentford, according to reports in London today. A £10 million release clause is probably going to be activated as Tottenham and the Bees negotiate a deal for the manager’s transfer.

Ahead of the U21 EUROS later this summer, Hackney is now on England duty, therefore Boro has been preparing for interest in him. He was a vital part of Michael Carrick’s team, but according to sources this week, a £20 million deal might be on the horizon.

The Teessiders are currently looking for a replacement for Carrick, of course, although any transfer fee received would likely be put towards this summer’s budget.

Following a stint as head coach of Turkish Super Lig team Kayserispor, 48-year-old Bosnian Sergej Jakirovic has been named the new head coach of Hull City. He has signed a two-year contract.

On the last day of the season, he helped the Tigers avoid relegation, which led to the dismissal of former manager Ruben Selles in May. Jakirovic, who has managed in Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia before, will be managing in England for the first time.

After a thorough and extensive recruitment process, we are delighted to secure the services of Sergej,” Turkish businessman Ilicali told the club’s website.. “We believe in the football that he will bring to the MKM Stadium for us and importantly, he has proven himself to be a winner throughout his career.

“My dream for our club has never changed from the first day I took over, and I believe in Sergej as we look forward to the 2025-26 Championship campaign together as one family.”

Sheffield United have made their first signing of the summer transfer after clinching a deal for Ehije Ukaki. The 20-year-old winger arrives from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv as part of the Blades’ network to sign the best young talent for around Europe.

“Ehije is a player who has been identified through our data driven strategy and is someone we’re looking forward to developing,” manager Chris Wilder said of the new signing.

“He’s an emerging talent, still only 20, who has enjoyed some experience of European football early in his career, so there’s a base to work from.”
