This year, Kyle Larson plans to use his Darlington throwback paint scheme to honour a fellow NASCAR Cup Series champion.

Every year, NASCAR hosts a throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway, when current series stars get the opportunity to pay tribute to the sport’s history by showcasing famous, vintage paint jobs.

According to Hendrick Motorsports, Larson will use the same paint job that he used at Darlington in 2003 when he picked up his championship, honouring 1984 and 1996 winner Terry Labonte with his vehicle this year.

Over the course of 37 years, Labonte participated in 890 races, winning 22 of them and placing in the top 10 361 of them.
