After the visitors squandered the best opportunities of the first hour of play, Ruben Roosken and Ben Wiles set each other up to give Huddersfield a two-goal lead before Dominic Dwyer headed home what turned out to be a late consolation goal for Mansfield. Huddersfield interim manager Jon Worthington was thrilled to see his team get back to winning ways and keep their hopes of finishing in the top six intact as they defeated Mansfield 2-1 at home.

According to Worthington, the week has been difficult in terms of outcomes. Right now, the emphasis is on the outcomes rather than the performances.

“So I’m just really pleased for the lads that we’ve shifted the momentum again. The pendulum is going to keep swinging. It’s a bit of a roller coaster from where we’re at, but we’ve got to build on that again.

“There’s never going to be any easy game in this league. Mansfield have a good manager and a good team, and so you have to be patient.

“Yes, we weathered some moments, absolutely, but that’s part and parcel of football. Second half, we tweaked a few things at half-time, and it allowed us to get a little bit higher up the pitch and get more pressure on the ball.

“That’s two games now with narrow defeats against top sides, Charlton and now Huddersfield – ex-Premier League sides. We just need that extra little bit.” “We were really pleased with the impact of the subs. That’s what it’s about. It’s a squad game, not just about the stars.” “I think with our decision making we showed some real unselfish and right decisions in the right moments.” Nigel Clough, the manager of Mansfield, stated it.

“There’s nothing wrong with this formation, the way we’re trying to play – 80 to 90 percent of what we’re doing is very good indeed.” “It might be the players we’re missing, but if they stay, there will definitely be five or six better players for next season that we can take advantage of.” “It’s just that last bit that needs improvement in quality, play wise, that we need to see it through.”

“It is excellent to know that we have kept the distance from the bottom four, and we have successfully completed another challenging match.

“To reach 50, we need three points. We should continue playing exactly as we have in the previous few games, in my opinion, especially if we can find someone who will just help us achieve that objective or anything else with that conviction.

“However, I don’t see anything wrong with stating that we’re happy with the majority of what we accomplished.”
