Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider claims that Rangers are “seriously considering” a bid to sign Luuk De Jong, a Netherlands international, in order to strengthen their assault.

A number of first-team additions have been made by Russell Martin since his arrival at Ibrox this summer, including Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, Lyall Cameron, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, and Jeidi Gassama.

But with a number of players now expected to depart Glasgow before the end of the window, the club are eyeing more potential incomings and De Jong has emerged as a target.

Rangers ‘Seriously Considering’ De Jong Move

De Jong, who has previously been described as a ‘prolific talisman’, is a free agent this summer after his contract with PSV Eindhoven expired and he failed to find an agreement to extend his time in the Eredivisie.

Now Rangers are ‘seriously considering’ a move to bring in the veteran striker as a way to add experience and depth to their forward line, with O’Rourke revealing that they could offer him a two-year contract.

While Lille is eager to recruit Hamza Igamane and have already reached a personal agreement with the Moroccan, AEK Athens is interested in Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers. Martin acknowledges that a deal was turned down earlier in the transfer window, but he may yet go on.

The deal has stalled in recent weeks, though, since Rangers are eager to keep him and are asking a high price. Even if they stay, a deal for De Jong might still be possible because he offers a completely different kind of striker.
