A prospective Rob Couhig, the buyer of Reading FC, has made clear his objectives with regard to the club’s possible takeover.

Following his disqualification under the EFL’s Owners and Directors’ Test, Royals owner Dai Yongge has until April 4 to sell the team, according to a BBC report last week.

The Reading Chronicle has earlier reported that investor Robert Platek had entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire the League One team.

The takeover process has also implicated Couhig, the former owner of Wycombe Wanderers. Yongge attempted to obtain an injunction against the American last week, but was unsuccessful because he believed the American was impeding the attempt to sell to Platek.

Although negotiations to purchase Reading broke down, Couhig has stated that he is still interested in acquiring the League One team in light of Platek’s offer.
Though his securities are currently held by the Berkshire company, he has stated that he is amenable to any arrangement that can facilitate a takeover, even if he is not the next owner.

According to the Guardian, Couhig stated, “People act like it’s me that’s stopping the deal, but that’s just not true.”

“If it means bringing a resolution for the club’s improvement, I’m willing to board an aircraft today.
“My offer to purchase Reading is still open, but if that isn’t feasible, I’d like to assist in coming up with a workaround.

“I would consider any offer made by either side.”

              Reading’s promotion challenge

With nine games left, Noel Hunt’s team is only two points behind sixth-place Huddersfield Town in eighth place in the League One standings.

After being relegated from the Championship in 2023, Reading finished 17th in the table the previous season.

League One standings 2024-25 (As of March 26th)
Team P GD Pts
3 Wycombe Wanderers 37 +28 71
4 Charlton Athletic 38 +14 66
5 Stockport County 38 +18 65
6 Huddersfield Town 37 +18 61
7 Bolton Wanderers 37 +4 60
8 Reading 37 +6 59

But in spite of problems off the pitch, the club has come together to push its way into the top six.
The Royals’ next game is against Peterborough United at home on March 29.

Reading takeover situation must move quickly

Reading must sell the club by April 4th, failing which they will not be allowed to play games as long as Yongge is still the owner.

This means that in order to complete an agreement, things need to move quickly. However, according to The Telegraph, if the correct promises are given about the course of the negotiations, an extension may be granted on that date.
The players, staff, and supporters would all be disappointed if this were to ruin their chances of getting promoted.

Although the club is making progress, they are still far from the finish line and must act quickly to prevent disastrous outcomes.
