After missing out on two significant transfer targets thus far, Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has reaffirmed his interest in Hull FC forward Liam Knight.

In April, All Out Rugby League had previously disclosed that Warrington was considering the Australian prop. Knight, 30, joined with Hull on a short-term contract that extends till the end of the 2025 Super League season.

The Black and Whites are keen to keep Knight next year but currently have an overseas quota spot issue which could force the forward out the door. They are already at max capacity under the current rulings and are set to welcome James Bell from St Helens for 2026.

Burgess previously played alongside Knight at South Sydney Rabbitohs, with the current Hull man having also featured for Manly Sea Eagles, Canberra Raiders and Canterbury Bulldogs down under.

“He’s going great for Hull,” Burgess said. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested.”

Since arriving in England, Knight has made a strong impression under John Cartwright, although he was sent off during Hull’s Magic Weekend defeat to Huddersfield Giants. However,

Warrington are also at their overseas player limit, but contracts for Paul Vaughan, Zane Musgrove, and Rodrick Tai all expire at the end of the 2025 season, potentially freeing up space.

The Wire are looking to bolster their pack heading into 2026, securing Wigan Warriors forward Liam Byrne for 2026, as first reported by the Warrington Guardian. However, attempts to sign Matty Lees and Tom Amone fell through – Lees re-signed with St Helens, while Amone is set to join Hull KR in 2026 after a short-term stint with Castleford Tigers.
