Sheffield Wednesday is in disarray as a result of Dejphon Chansiri’s persistent shortcomings, but it’s doubtful that he will depart very soon.

After it was revealed that Sheffield Wednesday was unable to pay workers in March, the Owls have been in a major mess for the past week or so.

This latest disaster followed the club being placed under a registration embargo back in November 2024.

After not paying wages, Dejphon Chansiri was sent an EFL warning by football finance expert Kieran Maguire, who suggested they ‘will not be happy’.

The owner himself as since spoken out on the prospect of Sheffield Wednesday being hit with a three-window transfer embargo, as per The Star.

He said: “You can see even Reading for example, they have had a problem with embargos but they could get promoted. Sometimes I do not understand the mindset that outside of buying players it is not good. Actually; buy, loan or free, it doesn’t matter. It matters that a player fits to your squad or not. It doesn’t mean free or loan is always cheaper than to buy, sometimes they are more expensive.

“Of course, some players we maybe need to sell, but whatever happens must happen. Even if we get an embargo, it does not mean we cannot bring in players. You may say we could only bring lesser players but it depends on the way we recruit. Of course it would not be good as if you’re not under embargo, but it’s not going to be the last day of your life.”

What it would take for Dejphon Chansiri to sell Sheffield Wednesday

As the chaos continues to unfold, we have spoken exclusively to Sheffield Wednesday expert and journalist Luke Phelps, who shared his thoughts on the ‘nuts’ Chansiri.

He said: “Dejphon Chansiri is about as nuts as they come in terms of football club owners. He’s managed to build this huge divide between himself and the fans with his outlandish comments and criticisms of the fans, even asking them to settle an outstanding £2million HMRC debt last season.”

On what it would take for the Thai business owner to sell the club, Phelps added: “Every time he speaks about the club, he digs himself into a deeper whole. His sentiment has always been: ‘If you want me to sell the club, then find my a buyer’, but how on earth does he expect the fans to do that?

“I think Chansiri is too selfish and too naive to sell the club. He’s invested so much money and I think he’ll only leave when Sheffield Wednesday are a Premier League team and he’s made his money back, which without some kind of miracle will never happen under his watch.”
