As Christian Horner, the team principal for Red Bull Racing, provides insight into the organisation’s driver plans, speculation about Daniel Ricciardo’s future grows. Rumour has it that Ricciardo, who is now Red Bull’s backup driver, may soon be eligible for a more significant position. These rumours have been stoked by Horner’s recent remarks, in which he acknowledged that the team is carefully considering its alternatives for the 2025 campaign.

The spotlight is on Red Bull’s secondary team, AlphaTauri, where Ricciardo briefly returned to racing after replacing rookie Nyck de Vries in mid-2024. However, a hand injury cut his stint short, and he has since been rehabilitating while remaining engaged with the Red Bull garage.

Horner emphasized that Red Bull is committed to its policy of developing young talent but acknowledged Ricciardo’s experience and track record. “We’re keeping an eye on all our drivers, including Daniel, who has been an integral part of Red Bull’s history,” Horner stated.

While current Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez remain strong contenders, Perez’s inconsistent performances have sparked questions about his long-term position. Ricciardo, who enjoyed multiple race wins with Red Bull between 2014 and 2018, could offer a veteran alternative if the team decides to make changes.

As Ricciardo works on regaining full fitness, the possibility of his return to a leading role remains a hot topic. For now, Red Bull’s driver lineup for 2025 is far from certain, and the next few races could prove decisive.
