Georgia football is the current SEC champion going into the 2025 season, and everyone knows they have a strong chance to win the title again. However, there are a few teams that could seriously challenge for the conference title this autumn.
Texas, the conference’s second-best team the previous season, is one of those teams. The Longhorns might be the club most determined to defeat UGA this season after Georgia defeated them twice last year—once on the road and once in the SEC championship game in Atlanta.
Georgia’s home game against the Longhorns in this season’s SEC finale will provide Texas at least one opportunity to do so, and there’s always a potential that both teams may face off in this season’s SEC Championship game.

Additionally, it will be much harder for Georgia to conduct their business this season than it was versus the Longhorns last year.
Texas is spending an unreal amount of NIL money
Texas is reportedly investing between $35 and $40 million on their roster for the upcoming season. This is almost twice as much as they spent on their team from the previous season, which finished second in the SEC and advanced to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. This sum also doubles the amount spent on the roster by Ohio State, the team that won the National Championship the previous year.
What does this signify for Georgia, then? Theoretically, this means that Texas will be considerably more formidable this season and much harder to defeat. However, it may not be the case in the real world.

Over the past several years, there have been many instances of teams investing a lot of money in their rosters only to have incredibly poor seasons. Spending a lot of money does not always translate into success, but it seems unlikely that Texas will have a mediocre season.
Additionally, Texas and every other SEC club should continue to be worried about Georgia since Kirby Smart is still wandering the Georgia sideline.
