Daryl Powell has revealed that Josh Griffin would be leaving Wakefield Trinity at the conclusion of the Super League season.

They defeated Wigan Warriors 16–10 at Belle Vue on Friday, their most memorable night of the season, and the back-rower scored Wakefield’s second try. Griffin was able to land without any opposition before the interval by taking advantage of a slip from Jake Wardle and getting himself on the end of a brilliant Mason Lino grubber.

That concluded the back-rower’s outstanding performance, in which he effectively put pressure on Harry Smith and assisted Wakefield in defeating Wigan’s deadly left edge. During the game, he ran for 103 meters from 13 carries and made 33 tackles.

After the game, Powell was heard praising himself, which is not surprising given that the head coach said the performance was the finest he has seen from the 35-year-old in a long time.

Powell did, however, also disclose that Griffin’s contract was about to expire and that this season would be his final one wearing a Wakefield shirt.

When questioned about the former Hull FC and Salford Red Devils player, Powell remarked, “I think he’s been like a different man this year to be honest.” “Just his hard work, his kick chase, and his persistent, violently carrying Harry Smith around.”

That was the best I’ve seen him in a long time, and I thought he was extremely good. In the changing rooms, I told him that, but I felt he was unique.

Powell said, “Not here,” when Serious About RL asked where Griffin’s future might be. I believe he’s working on other small projects. He won’t be here next year; he’ll be somewhere else. I’ll let him tell you what he’s doing, though.

Although nothing has been verified, Griffin is now employed by League One team Midlands Hurricanes as a strength and conditioning coach. If he wants to stay in the game, it is anticipated that he will move down to the part-time ranks.

He has been with Wakefield since leaving Hull FC in July 2023 and in that time he has made 43 appearances.
