Dean Campbell, who was rumoured to be one of Northampton’s top summer transfer targets, will depart the team when his contract ends at the end of June, according to Barrow.
Both Sky Football and the Scottish publication the Daily Record reported earlier this month that Cobblers were “leading the fight” to sign the midfield player. After graduating from Aberdeen’s academy and playing 74 games for the team, the 24-year-old Scot moved south of the border and spent 2022–2023 on loan at Stevenage, where he made 26 appearances as they were promoted to League One. He has represented his country at the under-18 and under-19 levels.

Campbell left Aberdeen permanently when joining League Two Barrow in the summer of 2023 and he stayed at Holker Street for two seasons, netting five goals in 86 games. He was offered a new contract at the end of last season but has opted not to sign it and will therefore depart.

Following their rejection of club offers in pursuit of better chances elsewhere, Kian Spence and Dean Campbell will depart the Bluebirds when their contracts expire, according to a statement from the club. We want to express our gratitude to Kian and Dean for their two years of hard work and dedication.

League One newcomers Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers are among the clubs rumoured to be rivalling Northampton for Campbell’s services this summer
