Harrison Burrows, a highly sought-after full-back from League One, was signed by the Blades last summer, and it appears that Chris Wilder may be hoping to return to the third division during the current transfer window.
According to Pete O’Rourke, Sheffield United and Swansea City, another Championship team, are interested in Ethan Galbraith. The versatile 24-year-old has had a great first two years at Leyton Orient. In their League One play-off semi-final victory against Stockport County this past May, he netted the game-winning penalty to take the O’s to Wembley.
The former Manchester United academy player appears to be well-liked by Sheffield United supporters and is one of the numerous names on Richie Wellens’ team who will be connected to a move to the second division this summer.
In an interview with Football League World, Jimmy, host of The Blades Ramble podcast and a Blades fan analyst for FLW, echoed these opinions by saying that Galbraith would be a “solid option” for his team’s Premier League aspirations.
Ethan Galbraith links a cause for excitement, according to Sheffield United fan pundit
Jimmy admitted that, whilst Galbraith is an unknown quantity to him personally, the reports linking the 24-year-old with a move to Bramall Lane are being met positively around the red half of South Yorkshire.
“I personally don’t know a lot about Ethan Galbraith if I’m being honest, but a lot of people I speak to whose opinion I value really rate him,” he said.
“He’s a good age and a lot of the feedback I’ve heard is really positive.”
On which position Galbraith would be assigned to play at Bramall Lane, Jimmy suggested that he would be set to play more on the right of their midfield.
The 24-year-old played as a right-back for the majority of the second half of the season under Wellens, but is comfortable playing across the midfield, too – albeit he has not played much on the wing in his career at all.
Jimmy continued: “I think we have other options [for right back], but in terms of someone who could potentially play right wing, it certainly highlights a position we are struggling in and have struggled with throughout last season.
“He seems a solid option and a good investment for Sheffield United – I’d be really excited to see him come to Bramall Lane.
“So yeah, it’s a thumbs up from me.”
Ethan Galbraith’s versatility makes him a key asset for any Championship side – Chris Wilder should make his move
Last season, Ethan Galbraith cemented himself as one of the most important players in the EFL due in part to his ability to play numerous positions with minimal fuss.
Throughout the season, the Northern Irishman played at right-back, defensive midfield, wing-back and even as an attacking midfielder behind Charlie Kelman at times, but never really on the wing for the O’s.
In a long 46-game season, having the ability to play in a multitude of positions makes you a key name in any squad looking to challenge for promotion, hence the increased interest from a side like Sheffield United.
Last season, Galbraith netted six times and provided six assists. Additionally, he played every minute in the play-offs, showing how key he was in the Leyton Orient side.
The Leyton Orient boss has said that he expects to lose key players this summer. They’ve already seen key loan players Charlie Kelman, Jamie Donley, and Josh Keeley depart, and Wellens will be hoping that players contracted to the O’s won’t follow suit.
However, if the Championship promotion contenders come knocking, it’ll be hard to see a situation where Ethan Galbraith ends up remaining at Brisbane Road for the 2025/26 campaign.
